Background: Plants and herbivorous insects interact in ways ranging from chance encounters to tightly coevolved relationships. This seminar will cover topics including plant defenses against herbivory, mechanisms of insects of overcoming those defenses, fitness effects of interactions for both plants and insects. We will discuss these topics and others from both evolutionary and ecological standpoints.
Course Text: Induced Responses to Herbivory (Karban and Baldwin) and Plant Resistance to Herbivores and Pathogens (Fritz and Simms).
