Kathryn Schoenecker

Kate Schoenecker is an ungulate ecologist for USGS-BRD at the Fort Collins Science Center, currently working on a PhD under the direction of Dr. Tom Hobbs. Her research is on the grazing ecology of elk and bison in Great Sand Dunes National Park, The Baca National Wildlife Refuge, and surrounding TNC, state, BLM, USFS, and private lands in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. The study involves the use of 20+ ungulate exclosures to evaluate herbivory effects to key vegetation communities, 65 radio-collared elk (both GPS and VHF collars), and 14 radio-collared bison to evaluate movements and herd sizes of these large herbivores.
