I am a new MS student joining George Wittemyer in his study of social complexity in African elephants. I received my BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Michigan, where I studied the effectiveness of dam manipulation in curtailing eutrophication in an urban watershed. My research at CSU will focus on the.impact of human disturbance on bonding and behavior in this highly social species. Poaching and other human-elephant conflict is causing rapid change in the study population in northern Kenya, and little is known about the implications for survival and fitness. The goal is for this research to inform collaborative conservation efforts in Kenya and across the continent.
